Most California trout fishing is for stocked fish in lakes and slow river stretches, and they respond well to bait fished just off bottom rather than dragging on it. Cooler water in spring and fall tends to fish best, especially in lower-elevation lakes that warm up through summer.
Typical size: 8-20in · Peak season: spring, fall. Always check current CDFW regulations for size and bag limits before keeping fish.
