California Scorpionfish (Sculpin)
Scorpaena guttata
Sculpin sit motionless on rocky bottom waiting to ambush prey. Handle with care, the dorsal spines are venomous, but a precise dropshot presentation right on the structure gets bit reliably.
Typical size: 10-17in · Peak season: fall, winter. Always check current CDFW regulations for size and bag limits before keeping fish.
